Warner Dygert was deeded the original farmland in Palatine Bridge — now amassing 650 acres — by the British monarchy in 1723, when New York was still a colony of the empire.

Today, the family vocation of working the land continues into its 13th generation as Robbie Dygert and his wife Shannon serve as more than stewards of Robbie’s family land and legacy. They are leading the agribusiness into fourth century, set to begin in just two years, with plans that will help it thrive for generations to come. And that’s good because 9-year-old Dylan is already thinking about his long-term future.

Our staff photographer Stan Hudy went along with reporter Andrew Waite to explore the tradition and innovation happening at Dygert Farms Creamery on Dec. 6.
