A couple of long-gestating ideas for Sox Machine merch are finally on the store in preorder form. The preorder window will run through Thursday, Feb. 10.

If you support Sox Machine at the 5 WAR or 10 WAR tiers, check your email or the Sox Machine Patreon page for the latest coupon codes. And if you don’t yet support Sox Machine, maybe a discount is sufficient motivation?

The White Sox have ranked 23rd in baseball in homers over the last four years, but they do lead the league in a category to partially compensate for the lack of thump. Their .315 BABIP is baseball’s best, thanks in part to strong showings by Yoán Moncada (.361), Luis Robert (.359) and, of course, Tim Anderson (.356), all of whom rank in the top 10.

(James McCann’s .355 would be good for ninth were this exercise limited to just his White Sox career.)

During this time where the White Sox built an offense on an unusual array of singles, a line surfaced time and time again in my mind. The only reason I haven’t written it down is because I wondered if I’d be wasting a t-shirt idea.

Now it’s your turn to tell me:

Designed by billyok, it’s the rare t-shirt that references both a fundamental sabermetric stat and another t-shirt, meaning that any passerby who gets it automatically transforms from “stranger” to “friend.”

The cost is $30 and includes USPS first-class shipping.

Note: If you wear an XXXL, let me know, either in the comments, email (jim@soxmachine.com), DMs or otherwise. I can’t guarantee availability at the moment, but I may be able to add it if I meet a minimum order threshold.

When I ordered the first run of Sox Machine caps, I also ordered a couple of samples of other styles for future pursuits. One was a The North Face trucker cap that I would be wearing … if my wife didn’t claim it as hers … and if she didn’t give it to my dad, because it turns out that’s his favorite style of cap as well.

It’d been out of stock for months, but my product rep says it’s back in play. I’ll be ordering two for the household, and you can help me know how many others to request.

The cost is $40 and includes USPS first-class shipping.

For preorders, you’ll immediately receive an email confirming the purchase, followed by another email when I ship out your package, including USPS tracking information.

I’ll be ordering a few extra of each item for those who miss the initial window, but preordering helps 1) support Sox Machine and 2) accurately gauge demand, which 3) helps Sox Machine avoid inadequate or excess inventory.

Writing about the White Sox for a 16th season, first here, then at South Side Sox, and now here again. Let’s talk curling.

Everybody get on your feet You make me nervous when you in your seat Take off your shoes and pat your feet We’re doing a dance that can’t be beat We’re BABIPpin’

as Wilson Pickett might’ve put it….
